AVAC United Youth Recreational League Game Schedules
Spring 2024 Season The official League rules of play are as follows:
PLAYING TIME:
Game times are two 18-minute halves (Running Clock).
Clock stops with 2 minutes remaining in the 2ndhalf if the score is within 10 points.
OVERTIME:
The first two overtime periods will be 2-minutes running time.
The third overtime will be 1 minute (running time).
After the third overtime period there will be a sudden death.
One additional timeout allowed for each overtime period.
Timeouts are not cumulative.
QUALIFICATION:
(Age/Grade) Grade based on 2023/2024 Academic Year.
A player may qualify by age or grade.
Players only must be in the correct grade level for their respective division.

MERCY RULE:
If a team is winning by twenty (20) points or more in the 2ndhalf, they can no longer press and must play defense inside the 3-point line, until the lead is 10 points or less. Once the lead is 10 points or less, the team can then revert to man defense. Same rules shall apply if the lead goes above 20 points again.
1st/2ndCoed:
Division– Teams in this division can NOT play full court defense. Teams can only play defense inside the 3-point line. There are NO 3 point shots for this division. All shots are ONLY worth 2 points with the exception of free-throws, which are 1 point.
Stalling Rules:
Coaches must keep playing until the end of games.
Cannothold the ball if they are winning ( Must try to score).
Thereis no shot clock. Therefore no stalling DIVISION STANDINGS: 1} Record 2) Head-to-Head 3) Point difference between tied teams 4) Points allowed 5) Points scored 6) Coin toss
IMPORTANT RULES:
Whenshooting free throws all players positioned along the key, with the exception of the shooter, mayenter the lane upon the release of the shot.
Double Bonus on 10th foul, (No 1 and 1). 2 free throws after 10 team fouls.
Three (3) time outs per game; (30) seconds each
CIF rules and ten (10) second backcourt violation rules are in effect.
Only two (2) coaches per team can sit on or stand near the bench. The head coach is the only certified person that can approach the score table with questions. All other coaches must remain on the bench. Only one (1) Coaches can be standing at all times.
If a team fails to appear with at least five (5) eligible players and /or their head coach at game time, a grace period of five (5) minutes will be given. After five (5) minutes, a forfeit MAY be declared by the Site Director. Fifteen to Zero (15-0) shall be the recorded score.
Scoreboard score is final (not the book)
CERTIFICATION:
All Players will be certified during league registration and placed on an official team roster. No Player can be added without authorization from AVAC United Administrative staff. No player will be added after the Third (3rd) game of the season. Only rostered Players can play.
PLAYING ON TWO (2) TEAMS:
Players cannot play for two separate teams in the same age / Grade division. A younger Player with league approval, may play for one additional older team.
CONDUCT/EJECTIONS:
The Head Coach is responsible for the conduct of his/her spectators and athletes. If there is an ejection, the Head Coach will be asked to remove the ejected person from the facility.
If a Team Coach, Assistant Coach, Athlete or spectator/parent is ejected from a game, he/she may be suspended for ONE FULL GAME (the following game) and will not be allowed in the gym during suspended time or on the property. It is also the responsibility of the Coach, Assistant Coach or Team /Parent Representative to insure the ejected adult or athlete does not enter the property of the facility. AVAC League staff reserves the right to remove any coach, player, or fan from the facility for inappropriate behavior. Teams may also be removed from the league with no refund.
Technical Fouls– Players:
Technical fouls against a player is also counted towards that player as personal foul. If a player is given a second (2nd) technical foul in a single game, that player is disqualified from that game and MUST leave the gym. Fighting will NOT be tolerated. Players involved in physical altercations are immediately disqualified from the game and MAY also be disqualified from further playing in the league.
Technical- Coach:
If a coach receives a tech, that coach along with his/her assistant must remain on the bench and can NOlonger stand and coach his/her team for the remainder of that game. Should a coach receive a second tech in a single game, that coach is disqualified fromcoaching that game and MUST also leave the gym.
SCORESHEETS:
Score sheets must be checked for complete information (including numbers) by the parent representatives or coaches 30 minutes before the start of each game.
OFFICIAL BALLS:
The HOME TEAM shall provide the game ball. If both teams cannot agree on a game ball, an alternate ball as chosen by League/gym supervisors will be used.
Boy’s divisions 7thgrade and above will play with a 29.5” basketball.
Boy’s division 5thGrade and lower will play with a 28.5” basketball.
All girls’ divisions will play with a 28.5” basketball.
1st and 2ndwill use junior basketball.
Player substitution:
It is important for coaches, players, parents, to understand this is a recreational basketball league. Therefore, having fun and participating is more important than simply winning. Coaches MUST substitute all players in the game with players on the bench at least once per half. All players must be allowed a minimum 9 minutes per half.
PROTEST:
All protests regarding player eligibility must be made BEFORE the end of the game to the official, scorekeeper, or Site Director by the HEAD Coach only (or assistant coach if the head coach has been ejected) and noted on the score sheet. Protests pertaining to scorekeeper and /or an official’s judgment call will not be considered. Protests in which a potential rule infraction has occurred MAYbeconsidered only if the infraction has a direct impact on the outcome of the game and falls within the guidelines of correctable errors. The Site Director’s decision(s) will be final.
HOME & VISITOR:
The HOME teamislisted on the bottom of the schedule and shall wear white or light colored uniforms and the VISITING team shall wear dark uniforms. The Home team shall sit to the left of the score table and take the opposite basket for pre-game warm-up and first-half play. The visiting team is the second team listed on the schedule (right side).
TEAM WAIVER FORMS:
All players and coaches must be listed on the team waiver form and parents must sign the form before participation. It is the responsibility of the Coach and Team Representative to insure that all participants are officially referred and verify that the athletes, parents, coaches, spectators, and volunteers are completely aware and have been advised that they will waive all claims against the AVAC United, together with its affiliated clubs; its respective administrators, directors, agents coaches, and other employees or volunteers of the organization; event officials; medical personnel; other participants, their parents, guardian(s), supervisors and coaches; sponsoring agencies; sponsors; advertisers; and if applicable, owners, lessons, and lessees of premises.
